Video Lessons
Back in April 2020, the world changed almost overnight. Many of the things that we took for granted changed. Before that time, the concept of taking a lesson via video over the internet was reserved for very specific, long distance lessons, not the weekly guitar or piano lesson that millions of people took each week all around the world. That all changed when all of the sudden, in-person lessons were simply not permitted.
While some people simply withdrew from lessons, many agreed to pivot to taking their lessons by video. At the time, everyone thought that the switch to video lessons was a temporary one :) Thankfully, modern video call technology is so good. It made the task of switching to a video lesson very simple not to mention, almost everyone already possessed the equipment (phone, tablet or laptop) needed to participate. The biggest challenge was faced by the teachers. They had to quickly adjust their teaching style and habits to work from the other end of a video call. Thankfully and not surprisingly, our teachers were able to rise to that challenge and its a good thing since they ended up teaching that way until now (Sept 2021).
Before the pandemic shut downs, almost all people surveyed told us that they were 100% NOT interested in a video format lesson. It seems that in some cases, being forced to switch to the video format changed some minds. We now hear from some people that they prefer the format. Most people sight the relaxed nature of the lesson as their reason. No need to rush to the studio, the comfort of their own home, mom or dad can be doing something else (other than waiting in the waiting room) during the lesson. Whatever the reason, it has become clear that the video format seems to be here to stay for at least some of our students.
In terms of administration, video lessons work the exact same way as our in studio lessons. You can sign up online, by phone or in the store in person. We sign you up for the remaining weeks in our current session. Read more about sessions and registration here.
During registration, we determine which video format you would prefer to use. It can be Zoom, Skype or FaceTime (for teachers with Apple devices). Then, at your weekly lesson time, our teachers simply call you and you have your lesson. Your teacher will help you figure out a good way to position your camera for the lesson. No extra equipment is required, just a bit of imagination. The only thing that you need other than the video equipment is a quiet place to take the lesson.
As always, if you have any questions feel free to email or call us.
